Simon Hickie wrote: Sat Jul 22, 2017 10:05 am So if you had to choose three consecutive Genesis studio albums, which would you go for?

I'd go for Foxtrot, Selling England and The Lamb with the last of these just edging out Nursery Cryme.

And for Yes, I'd go with The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge.

Pink Floyd is trickier. I'd have to have Meddle, but then which direction to go in from there?
Since Trick of the Tail is the first Genesis album I bought (I thought the earlier ones too rambling - cough - ), it has to be that first, followed by And Then There Were Three and Duke. I liked PG III and Smallcreeps Day from the solo efforts of the late 70's and yes, PF's Meddle is one of my all time favourite albums - the middle section of 'Echoes' setting me up for Tangerine Dream's 'Phaedra' a couple of years later... The first Yes LP I bought was 'Relayer,' which I love and the track 'Awaken' from Going For The One is a lasting favourite...

... 'Like the time I ran away, turned around and you were standing close to me...' Don't know if DQ would like this one...
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

Awaken is probably my favourite Yes track.

Still hoping DQ is making a steady recovery.

Consecutive albums - that's not easy.

Kate Bush: Never For Ever, The Dreaming, Hounds of Love
Manfred Mann's Earth Band: Roaring Silence, Watch, Angel Station.
King Crimson: Starless and Bible Black, Red, Discipline

Such is the nature of the challenge!

My PF trilogy would probably have to be Atom Heart Mother, Meddle & Obscured by Clouds. But I'd also have liked to have WYWH and Saucerful of Secrets in there too. (DSOTM is overrated IMHO).

I'm sure DQ would insist on strict rules for what constitutes consecutive studio albums too!

Mine would be
Alice Cooper, Love it to Death, Killer and School's Out. Billion Dollar Babies was too contrived for me, but it was the most successful of the original group's LPs.
Somebody’s telling me the latest scandals.
Somebody’s stepping on my plastic sandals. Joe Jackson (1979)

Hey, this is fun!
Fun and encouragement to DQ to get those neural pathways going.

Another challenge is one's favourite 10 year period for albums. My personal challenge is to choose either 1967 to 1976 or 1968 to 1977. The former misses out key punk albums, the latter Sgt Peppers, early Floyd etc.

Or for a really mean challenge, a 5 year period (by release date). I'd have to go 1969-73 (5 years Jan69-Dec73). But 68-72 is a tempter.
