Abstract rubbish I'm afraid from both of you. I will not take what either of you say seriously again.

I assume I'm one of the members you allude to, in which case that is entirely your prerogative.

Pointing out the potential dangers to wallet and life is what I/we were doing, surely these are pretty serious matters and therefore not to be classed as abstract rubbish?

I'm not afraid to say I've buggered up loads of kit and been "rudely awoken" (shall we say) by being bitten by leccy, before I learned enough not to kill myself. I'm still learning but seek help from others if I don't know what I'm about to do.

Daniel, have you ever had an electric shock ?

If so, is it something that you would like to repeat ?

What is it you don't understand about the possibility of death if you poke your finger inside a valve amplifier, or indeed anything connected to the mains ?

I have enough knowledge to avoid electric shocks. I've built 6 amps todate and not been shocked once. And I've only got 1 functional arm.

I want an example of learning empirically being inherently dangerous. I'll give you a clue. Its bollocks. You are at risk of electrical shock even if you know everything.

And why would I want to build a valve amp.

I'm glad that we have established a very important fact.

It didn't need establishing.

You may think that, but it needs saying, frequently.

Indeed, an electrician colleague of mine many year ago blew up this new Fluke as he was rushing a job for a co-worker (doin' a foreigner) he completed it and went back to the break down and blew his Fluke up as under duress, he hadn't checked the setting! £coslty to say the least.

I set fire to a carpet with 1400v once. Does that count?

Oh yes.

And the noise + magic smoke when capacitors are connected up with incorrect polarity. :)
