This may be a stupid question but as far as the steel plate goes would chequer plate be fine? I can get it in 4-5mm thickness for a good price.

Personally Jimbo, I think the small protrusions of the chequer will throw up all sorts of standing waves.

Time consuming I know but the benefits will be clearly heard on yer first Dire Straits Album.... :lol:

You most certainly cannot Jimbo......

A lot of soft folk give Dire Straits a wee bit o flack, and who knows they may have a point, but....
Their self named debut Album remains in my top 20 albums of all time...... :guiness;

I quite like a bit of Dire Straits. An evening with Mark Knopfler is pretty good too.
