Re: User review thread
Jammy, my priority in buying hi-fi equipment is to get world class sound for the lowest price. Looks and WAF are pretty much bottom of my priority list. For me the EMT 950 is a thing of beauty because of the deep and expensive engineering behind it. It is more beautiful under the bonnet than my LP12 which looks cheap and nasty in comparison.
I've got far uglier and larger bits of hi-fi kit than the 950.

I'll give it a go at some point, but it'll read more like an autobiography than a user review, the way I see it. Don't know if the membership can stand thatDr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:Come on give us a review of your system and your path to where it is now - don't just try and follow the usual magazine format, be individual (I am sure Jammy will be )

This is what I mean by under the the bonnet engineering beauty:
Electronic boards inside an EMT 950
Thorens TD125 motor to the left. EMT 950 motor to the right. It weighs 2kgs.
EMT 950 with platter removed
EMT 950 chassis
The inside of the Linn Radikal motor controller box.
LP12 motors -the Radikal DC one on the left and the old AC one on the right .
LP12 from underneath - with arm removed in this photo.

Ahhh, now I see why they are soooo expensive, they are not just the turntable but the whole broadcasting studio!
Audio Grail "Sable" Garrard 401 with Cumbrian Green Slate plinth / Audiomods 6 / Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC, Parasound JC3+, NVA INT400sa. (Oh and a Copland CDA823 CD Player, for when I fancy a bit of the devil's spawn!)

Re: User review thread
There are some very interesting old broadcast TT, some not that expensive. There is a US one called Rek-o-Kut which despite it horrible name and basic looks has a very good reputation, built like the proverbial brick shite-house.
This one is *the* bargain if you can find one http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/reko_rondi ... _34l3.html ignore the new ones.

Hmm, I'm afraid, while I won't choose form OVER function, my equipment must also be beautiful, (or at the very least attractive).
