The most powerful version of this song I think I've come across.

Nils Lofgren takes the first solo, and Tom Morello the second, after the sax break.

Prompted by a Guardian article I have been having a bit of a Laura Nyro thing going today, all via Tidal, its clearly from an earlier time, but I like her voice and its helped make the decorating a little bit more acceptable.

Cocteau Twins 'Garlands' (1982)

Image

First got this when it came out in 82, there was a buzz about it in Sounds and the NME being the 'new Siouxsie' and a couple of tracks on the Peel Show had got me curious.

'Garlands' is a strange record: menacing but comforting, dark and light, intensely peaceful. It was new, it was different.

The music-obsessive in me has decided to get all the Cocteaus and DCD albums on vinyl (again) - luckily finding them reasonably-priced in the newest editions. However 'Garlands' is changed, now it is more accessible than impenetrable and is a vivid ride back into places I used to know.

Thanks Slinger and nilsatisnisioptimum for posting the two vids above, enjoyed listening to both, and thanks Fretless for not posting a video of the Cocteu Twins ;)

Filigree & Shadow is a timeless classic 👍

Because I am somewhat under the weather with a chest infection I am flip flopping between restful music interspersed with the occasional "banger" Currently banging out is Soniques classic Hear me cry 🎶👏🎶
