Just received a pack of Clannad LPs from their 'pop' period. I read recently that they were trying to become a sort of prog-rock outfit at the time which is most noticeable on the surprisingly impressive 'Sirius'.
'Legend' was commissioned as music for the 'Robin of Sherwood' TV series but it is far more than just a soundtrack. A lovely record of strongly-composed music with stunning production and recording.
Next up 'Macalla' .... Bono? Who... ?

A vital quality in music (or any art-form for that matter) is 'Beauty'. The music of Clannad has this by the bucketload.
My first introduction to them was the single 'Harry's Game' and the accompanying album 'Magical Ring' with its Gaelic themes, delicate traditional settings, gorgeously haunting vocals and a crisp, clear 'Rock' production.
They swept in fully-formed from the mysterious Donegal coast, having played as a folk-group for 10 years, and conquered the world - creating the Celtic Music genre in the process.
Beautiful. Says it all.
