Went to Cheltenham for the Christmas drink up two weeks ago in the knowledge that it would be day light robbery at the racecourse, £7.40 a pint. :angry-screaming: We did not have many. Instead we got blasted on the train up with our own cocktails. :guiness; It was cans at a Tesco Extra for the journey back.

Pubs in the suburbs of Cardiff are closing right left and centre, but the ones in town seem to be holding up. The pub nearest to me is on borrowed time and four others near by, two under new ownership, never seem busy. It seems Covid hit the industry very hard and prices have gone up a lot since. Far cheaper to drink at home.
£7.40 a pint :shock: :o :hand: No thanks, I'd rather stay at home or buy some expensive foo fuses :grin:

My nearest pub is now a purveyor of over priced food in small portions. The bar is secondary and the only decent beer is Shipyard which luckily for me is their cheapest. I have to be dragged into that place kicking and screaming. I feel offended every time the bar person asks for the money.

Not in the Christmas spirit i know but I am not the only one in my group of friends and acquaintances that feel like this, 99% of them agree. The pub only opens Thursday to Sunday so the people are obviously staying away. But then we have prices rising at ridiculous rates . I don't know where this is all going. Even the nearest spoons was quiet. The Sam Smiths pub looked relatively busy but it is tiny like going in someone's front room.

Merry bleeding Christmas :guiness;

Our local has been through more landlords that the Tories have had prime ministers. all of them have fallen out with the owner who is a complete twonk, but for some reason persists in pouring money into the place. The last couple departed last week. You'd hope that he would have learned by now to step back and let those experienced in the hospitality trade get on with it, but no. So once again we don't have a pub this xmas. We don't go there very often, for much the same reasons as you, but we do try to support it now and then.

Hey Ho & A Merry Xmas to you all...

When Covid struck Brains Brewery announced that it would be closing three of its pubs in the suburbs of Cardiff in eighteen months, including the one by me. The pub closed for a number of weeks amidst vocal protest. Someone took over the pub but it is only temporary until the council find another use for the building. The two other pubs near by under new ownership with different names do not appear to be prospering, although money has been spent on one providing a beer garden.

Merry Christmas, have a good one :guiness;

My kids are so excited. It's times like these I never want them to grow up and for these laughter filled days to last forever.

My first Christmas as an orphan :cry: I miss my mum so much and I think without my family and friends I would have drunk myself into an early grave by now.

2023 is gonna be a good year , I can feel it in my bones.
