AC Marias 'One of Our Girls (Has Gone Missing)' (1989)

A side-project from Wire bassist B.C. Gilbert. During that band's 80's hiatus, he teamed up with singer Angela Conway to make this one-off album of quirkily atmospheric pop. I had this when it came out but couldn't quite get my head around it. Now reacquired, it has stood the test of time well and sounds oddly contemporary.

Strange, but nice. 8-)

Yamaha DX7 synths, Linn drum machines, Fairlights and Emulators everywhere.
I well remember the heyday of the Northern working men’s clubs and the turns that either did quite decent covers of these records or murdered them without mercy. Tubeless Hearts, The Gents, Dragonfly, Bliss, Mad Jack’s Travelling Circus. Martin bass bins pinning the audience to the back wall of the concert room. Those were the days. Virtually no WMCs around here anymore.
These tracks are actually not bad at all. Fun is the word. :mrgreen:

The National 'Boxer' on lurid yellow vinyl. The album where they progressed from being an aggressive alt-rock outfit into something unique.
Bryce Dessner's classical training brings pianos, strings and odd tunings into play with a truly great, melancholy album as a result.
