Gary Numan certainly knew a good bassist when he heard one. The Tubeway Army bass- player Paul Gardiner was terrific, but succumbed to drug-use and died way too young. Mick Karn of Japan stepped in for 'Dance' and also the then-unknown Pino Palladino is front-and-centre on 'I Assassin'.

Having just finished Numan's autobiography, I marvel at the fact that he is still active and making powerful and relevant music in a modern sonic age that he was so pivotal in creating. A unique character and dogged visionary.

My collection of his output has recently multiplied immensely and one worthwhile tip is the '5 albums' CD box with a complete double-disc Wembley Arena concert of early material plus 'Dance', ' I Assassin' and the Bill Nelson produced 'Warriors'.

Numan was a much-derided figure back in the 80's, but unable to do anything about that he kept on making (mostly) high-quality music as the latest 'Savage' and 'Intruder' only too clearly reveal.

It has taken me decades to drop my prejudices and return to his albums with fresh ears, but the experience is certainly a rewarding one.

A good local band, or sort of local - Llanelli.

Kae Tempest - the line is a curve. Stunning album. Sincere, delicate and gritty at the same time.

Just got them both as well. Very nice folky music slightly reminiscent of Clannad. Lovely voice of Rebecca.

PS to anyone interested: check Faeland out on Facebook as you can get these CDs at a very low price.

10 years since their last album, The Gathering have finally released 'Beautiful Distortion' - and a thing of beauty is certainly is. Recorded in Lockdown at the band's studio in The Netherlands with the vocals added at singer Silje's Norwegian location. The characteristic mix of mood-laden metal, trip-hop atmospherics and soaring melodic passion is all present and blended in a glorious perfection.

An excellent record that will certainly appeal to those who enjoy the quality of bands like Porcupine Tree, Opeth or Anathema.
