Beloved Shish Mahal owner Mr Ali dies at age 77 as tributes pour in.
According to legend, Mr Ali invented chicken tikka masala at the Shish Mahal in Glasgow in the 1970s with a can of tomato soup after a customer complained that his meal 'was too dry'.

Songwriter and producer Thom Bell has passed away. He produced and wrote for The Delfonics, The Detroit Spinners, Stylistics, The O Jays etc etc etc.
Absolutely one of the most important figures in soul music. The 70’s soul scene belonged to the man. He was just as important in advancing R&B as Berry Gordy. Those Philly soul records still sound great today. Gamble, Huff, Bell and the Sigma Sound studio: The soundtrack of my youth.
I know what I’ll be playing tonight.

RIP Edson Arantes do Nascimento - Pele.
In my own not awfully humble opinion, Pele was the greatest player to grace a football pitch with his presence.
The best quote I've seen today is "Pele was a god whose magic can’t be fully understood in the age of modern football"
Truth.

Very sad news. I have fond lasting childhood memories of the 1970 World Cup not long after I took a serious interest in football and was kicking a ball about in parks and gardens everyday that summer. That Brazilian side was something special the like of which we have not seen since. Pele was the star.
