The National 'First Two Pages of Frankenstein' (2023)

Where to go after the immaculate filigree delicacy of 'I am easy to find'? This question must have haunted The National for quite a while but the answer appears to be to tighten things up a bit and revisit the spirit of their breakthrough album 'Boxer'.

Yes, The National are still drenched in familiar nostalgic melancholy but the vision is clearer, more focussed than the last few albums. They still move in mysterious ways and any band that can pull in Taylor Swift on backing vocal duties has to be taken seriously these days.

Needs more listens but feels like a grower. And they've found their electric guitars again!
