For me, they are part of a history of wonderful kitsch artists that includes Salvador Dali, Chuck Berry, John Waters (Pink Flamingos etc), The Residents, (J)Wayne County, B52s, The Cramps, Kid Creole, Damien Hirst and many more, right through to Dirt Box Disco...

I wasn't seeking an explanation Paul, I am happy you like them and FWIW I am fine with kitsch, I've paid my money to see Wayne County (twice) Kid Creole and the B52s back in the day.
Again FWIW I think Damien Hirst has excelled in extracting money from a certain type of person but I wouldn't put him in same class as Dali. Finally that's the first I have heard of dirt box disco and I get why they would have a following but on that one track I didn't hear or see anything I would class as pushing the boundaries but as I said its only one track.

Paul Cauthen, Room 41
Loving this at the moment.
Country&Western from a very dark place.
New favourite track: Cocaine Country Dancing.
Good production values for those who care about these things.

War on drugs, Deeper Understanding. Double album at sensible money with great sleeve art work, lyrics etc. Sounds big and full of goodness on my set up.

Guilty Pleasure time ...

Kim Carnes ' Voyeur' (1982)

Image

After her worldwide smash-hit 'Bette Davis Eyes' and the accompanying LP 'Mistaken Identity' in 1981, Kim Carnes went back into the studio to make her hardest-edged album 'Voyeur'. Big production, solid drums, bucketloads of synths and electric guitars.

Despite the strong songs and her seductive, gravel-toned voice, this wasn't the huge success that she expected it to be and Kim Carnes remained a one-hit-wonder.

'Voyeur' is 80's AOR at its finest and, for me, Ms Carnes best record. One to cherish.
