Welcome DavyTed. I to moved from a highly regarded make to NVA. I haven't regretted it.

karatestu wrote: Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:50 pm Hi DavyTed. Hope you are enjoying the nva starter system. What speakers and source(s) are you using with it ?

Stu
The starter bundle I only ordered beginning of this week and delivery is 4 - 6 weeks so I have to be patient - not my strong point!
Sources are a cheap Tangent CD player with Micromega MyDac and Audio Technica AT LP5X turntable with AT95ML. Speakers are Markaudio Sota Cesti MB which being single driver should present an easy load for the NVA amp. These will all remain and at present are used with a Pear Drop class A amp. I also have the option on a "low mileage" Sonneteer The Bard phono stage to replace the inbuilt AT unit. Yet to sample this but could be interesting.
Thanks for your interest.
Dave
Would you be up for some DIY?

In the context of your system I think there's a very good chance you'd be delighted if you went down the speaker DIY route.

Welcome to both Marqymarc and DavyTed, and can agree with other members here, you will get good advice, and I think vfm recommendations, rather than the first thing that comes into your head.
DavyTed, I own Cesti MBR's, a fantastic vfm speaker and certainly no need to get rid of them and I'm sure will be an excellent match for NVA amps. The Sonneteer Bard would certainly be an improvement over your in-built one, and I believe is more than a decent unit. I will ask, what percentage do listen to vinyl compared to cd, also have you not thought about streaming, in my opinion it's the way forward now, even though it has taken me a long time to realise this?

Thank you all for your welcome messages - I feel at home already.
In answer to some of your questions:
The Cesti speakers will, I think, be stayers. I have for years had a respect for Ted Jordan's full range speaker designs and as I have matured (got old) and my hearing has naturally lost the higher frequencies I thought this would be the time to try single driver speakers. I then found out how much Jordan designed speakers have risen in cost. I found an article about Mark Fenlon, the Cesti designer, who is an advocate of full range drivers having previously, I understand, worked with Ted Jordan. Research and purchase of the Cesti's followed.
I already use USB to connect the laptop to the MyDac to play youtube tracks etc so more streaming could follow.
At the moment vinyl and CD are used fairly evenly.

If you ever get the chance, listen to SteveTheShadows DIY'd full range speakers, preferably in a bake off against yours.

His speakers are good 'uns, especially when you look at how much they cost him in time and money.

Have you heard the MarkAudio Cesti MBR's Lindsay? I wouldn't doubt StevetheShadow's speakers are very good, but not everyone as the ability or time to make a pair.

Lindsayt:
Whilst I do not know the sound quality of StevetheShadow's speakers I think the ready made Cesti's possibly represent better value. I don't know the complete finish build cost of Steve's speakers but my Cesti's cost little more than £300.
Of course the satisfaction of building your own speakers is priceless - or valueless if you don't like the result.
