Hi gus,i am the same age as you, have you noticed you go to more funerals than birthday parties these days.
Taverner does grow on you if you give him a chance. My thoughts are,you might as well go for it ,if your still alive and kicking.
I am determinded not to be in a home with a lead baseball cap on. :D

I don't do either. Birthdays are just to be ignored and funerals make me angry!! I can't stand pointlessness and that someone I knew has gone for ever and for no good reason but chance annoys the hell out of me. Even more annoying is that one of these days I will be off too. Now that REALLY annoys me.wallace wrote:Hi gus,i am the same age as you, have you noticed you go to more funerals than birthday parties these days.

Re: Obits
Absolutely bugger-all to do with music, but David Coleman has passed away. For many of us he was the voice, and the face, of sport for many years. As a commentator he was without equal, and as a cock-up merchant he held the same high office. Live commentary has a lot to answer for, and I'd like to remember him here as the man who spawned a whole sub-genre called 'Colemanballs' courtesy of Private Eye magazine if I remember correctly. Whole books of this stuff were published, but I'll leave you with a few choice examples...
He was even immortalised on Spitting Image. Can there be higher praise? Quite remarkable!"If that had gone in, it would have been a goal."
"The front wheel crosses the finish line, closely followed by the back wheel."
"That's the fastest time ever run - but it's not as fast as the world record!"
"There's going to be a real ding-dong when the bell goes."
"And here's Moses Kiptanui - the 19-year-old Kenyan who turned 20 a few weeks ago."
"He just can't believe what's not happening to him."
"Morcelli has the four fastest 1,500 metre times ever. And all those times are at 1,500 metres."
"In a moment we hope to see the pole vault over the satellite."
"One of the great unknown champions, because very little is known about him."
"It's gold or nothing...and it's nothing. He comes away with the silver medal."
"He's 31 this year. Last year he was 30."
"Ingrid Kristiansen has smashed the world record, running the 5,000 metres in 14:58:09. Truly amazing. Incidentally, this is a personal best for Ingrid Kristiansen."
"He is accelerating all the time. The last lap was run in 64 seconds and the one before in 62."
"Don’t tell those coming in the final result of that fantastic match, but let’s just have another look at Italy’s winning goal."
"Forest have now lost six matches without winning."
"For those of you watching who do not have television sets, live commentary is on Radio 2."

Re: Obits
The 'Godfather of Folk Music" as he's described in this obituary, has passed away. Mister Pete Seeger, has left us with a huge legacy of protest and folk music, and any man who was awarded the Presidential Medal of the Arts and a Kennedy Center Award, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received the Harvard Arts Medal and won a Grammy Award and appeared at President Obama's 2009 inauguration concert after declaring himself a lifelong communist and being blacklisted for 12 years courtesy of Senator McCarthy was O.K. in my book. He inspired many and supported those that inspired him. If you didn't know the man I urge you to read the obit I've linked here. Check out the Springsteen "The Seeger Sessions" for a great take on some of Pete's classic tunes too.

I think this is fabulous - Pete with Bruce on one of Bruce's numbers that could have been written by Woody Guthrie. Sheer bloody folk perfection in my opinion.

Thank you Pete.

Re: Obits
Ok this is belated, but deserves a mention i feel......(Thanks for the info andrew).......A sad tale indeed.
The Garrott brothers produced some fine cartridges by all accounts.
Rather than live in a world dominated by bad-sounding digital recordings and with interest in high-end vinyl reproduction reduced to a trickle, the brothers and their twin wives instead committed ritual suicide in 1991. (web Quote).
R.I.P. The Garrott brothers & Wifes.
