Re: Obits
The bad news is on a roll.
Michael Nesmith, as Fretless posted, has passed away aged 78.
“With infinite love we announce that Michael Nesmith has passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes,” his family said in a statement
OBIT
I loved the Monkees when I was younger, and a lot of their music has stood the test of time, and still sounds good to me. I've got a few of Mike's post-Monkees albums too, both with his "First National Band," who were ahead of their time, and some of his excellent solo stuff. He spent a lot of his later career "under the radar" so to speak but as the only child of a mum who invented "Liquid Paper"the first commercial correction fluid (like Wite-Out or Tipp-Ex or SnoPake) he didn't have to worry too much about money and could pretty much kick back and just do what he found enjoyable.
RIP to another bit of my youth.

Re: Obits
The Monkeys were an important part of my childhood. Used to collect the cards in bubble gum packs. Really liked the music which has stood the test of time. A sad loss.

Re: Obits
Just heard the terrible news that Thomas Mensforth (Mensi) from the Angelic Upstarts has died from Covid.
He gave them hope, he gave them strength, he gave them life. So many memories. RIP.

Re: Obits
RIP Phil Chen.
Phil Chen (born 25 December 1940 - 14 December 2021) was a well-known Jamaican bassist. He was one of England's most utilized session bassists during the 1970s and 1980s, including Jeff Beck, and the Rod Stewart band from 1977 to 1980, but is probably best known for his later work with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors.
He first joined Jimmy James and the Vagabonds before realizing that he could make much more money as a session musician. He went on to record with Jeff Beck (identified as "Phil Chenn" on the album cover) on his album Blow by Blow, Donovan on Cosmic Wheels and Joan Armatrading on Back to the Night. He also joined The Butts Band led by Doors members Robby Krieger and John Densmore and recorded their self-titled debut with them. He is also known for having been a member of Brian May's Star Fleet Project, along with Eddie Van Halen, in 1983.
Other musicians Chen has performed and recorded with include Rod Stewart (playing on "Hot Legs" (as well as being in the video), "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and "Young Turks"), Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, Desmond Dekker, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Jackson Browne, Dave Edmunds, and Linda Lewis (on "Rock-a-Doodle-Doo"), among others.
