LS1 vs LS5
Re: LS1 vs LS5
Terrybooth and I are using Epos ES22's with cracking results. I have recently used ATC 35's that worked brilliantly with my A80's also HECO Celan 700's were lovely in the mid and treble.
I think I will stay with the Epos' for a while, although I do have a DIY itch that I need to scratch, I am quite curious about open baffle speakers

If you are keen on small speakers then sell the LS3/5a on ebay for a fortune to some Japanese enthusiast and buy these for less than £50 (probably).

Hi Ninania
No I haven't heard those, I have only heard the older Epos which are the 11, 14 & 22's
All having superb mid range. This series of speaker were all produced within the same timeframe and to the same philosophy of Mr Marshal.
The latter ones you refer to are not quite in the same league.
I have never heard Royd speakers but RD'd recommendation is a good one also.

Re: LS1 vs LS5
Epos was Robin Marshall was Epos and it should have stayed that way as the guy, when he wasn't polluted by commercial expediency, knew how to make good loudspeakers. Sadly people like him are now controlled by marketing idiots and bean counters.

Like all things some are better than others, but he never made a bad one, and they are all exceptionally musical. The only sad thing is he never devoted his skill to producing a big loudspeaker, because his 6 inch driver he built individually himself if multiplied up in a line array would have been awesome IMO.Ninanina wrote:Are ALL Royd's good then ?
