Triple treat at the Square Chapel Last night
Science of the Lamps - Norweigian (lead singer at least) band
http://www.scienceofthelamps.com/
They did a version of 'Toxic' which once again proved to me that the songs she's had can be done a whole lot better than Britney did.
Next up, The Slytones - A "psychedelic gospel blues sextet". Louder and more than a shade or two of the late 60s/early 70s
https://soundcloud.com/the-slytones
And the main act The Moulettes. If you want to see someone rocking out with a bassoon or singing songs about recently discover nematode worms - these are the girls (and guys) for you.
They're busy bees and may be near you so I recommend a live listen

I'm off to watch young bluesman Laurence Jones and his band at the quite wonderful Band On The Wall in Manchester tomorrow.
Incidentally, the venue was originally named because of the following...

I've been there, enjoyed the band and the venue. The Haggis Horns are playing there this Saturday, I think.

Re: Last Live Listen
Laurence Jones was excellent last night, a wonderfully talented blues guitarist (it was hard to believe he is just 23, though he only looks about 15!).
I've long given up on stadium gigs, and if Joe Bonamassa thinks I'm going to pay £50 - £150 to watch him, when I can watch the likes of Laurence Jones, Simon McBride, Aynsley Lister and a host of others for about a tenner then he can think again.
Going back to last nights gig, the bass player Roger Inniss was phenomenal. I've never seen or heard of him before, but he's instantly become my favourite bass player.

Re: Last Live Listen
I think you can add Chantel McGregor to that list (she has played with Joe), though not quite as bluesy as Laurence Jones. Currently touring a new album http://www.chantelmcgregor.com/

An evening of Prog in Leeds last night - Steve Hackett giving people their money's worth - one set of his stuff and another of Genesis stuff. He certainly follows Zappa's advice: "Shut up and play"
Bass player has changed since this.
