Hy guys, i was listening to my old cds by the Smiths, and they sound wonderful, great work by Johnny Marr and co.
But i was asking to myself the meaning of certain lyrics...for instance...do you know "panic" ?

what's the meaning of this song? and who's the dj that should be hanged? Is an allegory i suppose but what is the meaning?

is the net not full of stuff? nevertheless Im a firm believer that a song means what means to you regardless of what the author meant .

this particular song as a young working class marxist with a chip on my shoulder spoke about alienation from so called normal life . the dj for me represents all DJ's and the most telling line is "because the music that they constantly play says nothing to me about my life"

richly resonated with this young pain up the arse that i was :D

As far as I know the "meaning" of the phrase 'Hang the DJ' simply means that the DJ is playing crap music and should be hung for this crime, metaphorically.

Yep... Amen to that. Bought 'The Queen is Dead' new on chunky vinyl a few months back and it's the one I play, to anyone prepared to listen, to demonstrate the advantages of vibrating chunks of jewellery :D
