As posted on the Music board I use the random play function on the Squeezebox from time to time - last night being a case in point. I find it is really good for digging out some lesser played tracks so potentially either reaquantment with an old favourite or reassessment of a track that may have escaped due attention.
It sort of reflects the way I use my vinyl, i.e completely unsorted. I often have to hunt for a particular record but then on the way play something else that I flick past.
What is the general concensus on sorted or unsorted collections?

Re: Randomise
I use "random" on my portable MP3 player for when I'm out and about and want some background sound, but for sitting at home and listening I prefer to choose my music album by album.

Re: Randomise
Tend to agree with Slinger,
at home my LP's are in alphabetical order, and I enjoy listening to complete albums. However, I have just bought a CD multichanger for the car and I don't enjoy putting on a complete album. I think that I will record a selection of tracks on to several cd's to give a selection of styles/variety.
Time and place for either method?
Guy.

Re: Randomise
Most definitely whatever works for you - I just like an element of surprise. I also find that certain tracks just don't do it for me at the time I get them but work at a later date.
