Yes, it's fair to say that the Patrician 800's are styled differently to any speakers made today. My wife mistook them for my Bozak Symphonies which have similar styling. I suppose it was an American 1960's syling thing. I prefer the look the Patrician IV's, which to me ooze high quality craftsmanship, making the 800's look plainer and more budget conscious.

Without hearing them, you might think that they are built around those monster 30" bass drivers. I don't think that's the case at all. I think that the heart of these speakers is the 1824M midrange unit and that these are the real stars of the show. Everything else is then down to getting an acceptable compromise in terms of everything else working OK around them.

The Patricians have knocked my Bozak Sympohony's off the top spot for favourite speakers in my house. They have a cutting edge clarity, an opennes, a focus to the sound that the Bozaks can't match. And that's using my £150 (2nd hand) 300 watt solid state amp on the Patricians - which traditional hi-fi wisdom would say are not a synergistic match.
But then the Patricians were over twice as expensive when new and are about 10 times more expensive in todays 2nd hand market - so that's fair enough.

Put doors on the back and you could hang your clothes in them.

Sorry Lindsay, I am sure they are special, but really - you must have a very understanding wife :D

It was her comments about how the Bozaks didn't sound as good as the Patricians that prompted my last post. I don't think it's appropriate for me to discuss my relationship with my wife on a hi-fi forum.

The low WAF of speakers like the Patricians and the Bozaks is self evident just by looking at photos of them. In hi-fi, as a general rule, you can have stunning looks, stunning sound, stunningly low price. Pick any two. Sometimes you only get one. Sometimes zero.

I haven't asked for a discussion, I made a statement, and a compliment.
