TFS 'Upgrades'?
Anyone out there with any views on 'upgrading' TFS with either
Media Center 18 (my TFS has 16 installed) or
Windows 8.
I've currently got Windows 8 and Media Centre 18 installed on my PC. For all that Windows 8 has been slagged off by the press and unsupported by manufacturers (by which I mean lack of touch screen support), once you get past the fact that the start menu is plastered over the screen, it is a good sight faster that Win 7. You may not think that the OS makes a difference to the sound but I do - Ubuntu on my TFS sounds different from Windows 7/Media Centre and a Mac Mini sounds, in my opinion, rather like Ubuntu (generally a 'softer' less 'forward' sound). So I'm a little tempted to pull the boot solid state drive (Win 8 plus Media Centre 8) out of my PC and stick it into the TFS.
Any views or am I on the bleeding edge?

Re: TFS 'Upgrades'?
Nope. Must be busy. No matter, I'll give it a whirl sometime.
On a related subject, the Asus Xonar Essence One Dac. Not knowing much about it, it strikes me that probably it needs a better power supply and a better USB cable. I may be wrong about the psu. Maybe it just needs the iec cable replacing with some LS2. Thoughts?

Re: TFS 'Upgrades'?
One of its main assets is its decent linear supply. I wouldn't bother doing anything but play with the op amps. Of course it can be improved by bigger PSU but complicated process, it is not as easy as it is with amps.

Hi Terry,
I have bought TFS for 4 months with JR Media Center 16, rip most of my CD's through EAC software, but I do not hear the sounds have much improement compare with my CD player (only 300 pounds). I thought maybe some wrong set up, after tried many options, I still do not see big changes. Do you think upgrade JR Media Center 16 to 18 will have some improvement? Your help will be much appreciated.
Also my TFS cannot play ISO format file. What about your TFS? Thanks

Re: TFS 'Upgrades'?
Probably the Asus drivers James. Lots about it on the old forum. My experience is that a CD ripped sounds better than a cd played directly on the TFS. I rip to flac. Never tried to play isos, but they can be mounted as a file system on Windows 7.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find a bit of time to give Win8 a go - I''ll report back if I do. The Xonar Essence One is on the wishlist.

Hi Jason,
I also learned that if use JRMC with ASIO4all software, the sound will be great. So I down load ASIO4all software, install to TFS. But I cannot play with it. I do not know why. Could you please give me some idea? Thanks
James
