The toys are here.
I've worn the poor postie out today. My new storage has arrive (thanks to applemarc) and my Asus Xonar Essence One DAC. (Okay, so it was only two parcels and not delivered by the same company, but I've permitted myself a little hyperbole, not to say poetic license).
Both are in and working, so I've decided to tell you all about my Netgear ReadyNAS NVX.
No? Well then you'll have to wait till I have a bit of time to make my mind up about the ASUS DAC. The only think I'll say for now is that it weighs about 50 times more than my Beresford, has pretty blue lights that match the TFS and that I've realised that an AB comparison with the soundcard in the TFS is going to be a PITA because JRiver has to be stopped and started again when you reconfigure it.

Re: The toys are here.
There's a little fiddling to do to get the sound to come out of them. Initial impressions are encouraging - but I'll give it a good listen when I've got the time and I'll compare with the Soundcard built into the TFS. Looks like it will be interested! Certainly better than the Gatorised Caiman etc etc I bought for my first DAC experiment.

It's been a couple of weeks now Terry, what are your thoughts on the new DAC?

Re: The toys are here.
It's been a couple of weeks without a central heating boiler, so my listening room hasn't been too inviting. I haven't got any details about the my impressions of the sound but it certainly isn't leaving the system! Unlike my first DAC experiment which lasted abour 5 minutes.
I'll have a go switching back to the internal card in the TFS and post my findings.

I know, but I put my thermals in the wash and I've had to wait for them to thaw.Sovereign wrote:Poor excuse :D
