With box, instructions and a cart fitted in the pic (not shure which  ) and what looks like near perfect nick then this should be in the late £300.

Thats looks like a really nice one - all the original bits (45 rpm adaptor/headshell etc) and with the box too. 8-)

If only I had the money to buy it...I'd go all out on this one as I'm not sure there will be a better more original one out there!

With the current bidding it's going to hit £400-£500 at this rate...be a while until I can afford a PL-71 with this kind of bidding.

There are others out there. I saw a Sony TT8000 (without an arm) go for a similar price and that (should be) in a league above the PL71 - was used as a broadcast turntable. I've just got a PS-X7, which may not be as good as a PL-71 (I've not made my mind up) but is certainly not awful.

Pioneer/Technics are popular - but what about Sony, Kenwood/Trio or all the other Japanese direct drives? Have a look at the archive forum for turntable discussions, there's a list there.

I always say buy Japanese DD turntables by the Kg. Heavier the better usually.

The thing about the PL71 is balance or internal synergy, it just works and I can't find fault. Musically it does everything I ask of it, but nothing is really really exceptional. For example a 301/401 in a good plinth (not slate) has a exceptional rhythmical bass to kill for, but it irritates me somewhere else, mostly masked information. The 1210 (and the SP10) is good but it irritates me as being too dry, if that makes any sense. The PL71 quite simply has nothing about it that irritates me, I ignore it and play music. And it is sweet not dry which suits me the same as with wine

Sony made some truly excellent DD TT. And the Trio / Kenwood LO7d is one of the best ever made.
