I had my cube 3’s on wooden stands recommended to me by the Doc. They are hollow but I’ve never bothered to fill them. The speakers were on top of the stands and toed on slightly.

Incredible speakers and excellent value. The only problem is that my entire system is in the loft.........

My Cubix came with very heavy dedicated Cubix stands made out of heavy gauge steel plate, both the lower and upper plates are drilled for and fitted with spikes. I can only assume Richard changed his mind on the subject of spikes into the cabinet in subsequent years.

When I stripped and upgraded every single part of my Cubix in December last year I added another 20mm plywood base plate separated from the original MDF base plate by a constrained damping layer . In theory the new base plate where the spikes locate the base of the Cubix is decoupled from the original base plate and the rest of the speaker cabinet. Whether sonically it actually is I don't know and don't how I would go about finding out ?

Does it sound better, yes the multiple changes have made a significant improvement but how much the theoretical decoupling of the Cubix from the Cubix stands has contributed who knows ? certainly not me

If only.......

There’s 2 x PL71, P90SA, the cubes, their stands, 2 x bbpsu and 2 x phono 2 plus a teddy pardo dac in the loft. The statement amp was just too heavy to get into the loft.

We were looking to put the house on the market but are now delaying the decision.

The house certainly has a mains problem and the statement had a small buzz. A dc blocker was a partial solution but this just made the fridge transformer buzz ! I could live with it but it was driving the rest of the family nuts.

I’m having a rethink about my system and might decide to put it all up for sale and move to something smaller. If I do then I’ll certainly give the hfs massive first opportunity.

I should add that one of the phono 2s is already sold.
