Glasto 2014

Unread post by slinger »

A bit of class on BBC 4 at the moment, Bryan Ferry esq. is entertaining the masses. I can't believe I forgot to record Robert Plant earler. Image

I'm hoping Planty will appear on the iPlayer Glasonbury micro site http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/errnc8 especially as he played some good old Led Zep stuff along with the new. Agreed about John Grant by the way, I bought Queen of Denmark on the strength of a review in Uncut magazine and wasn't disppointed.

I'm officially in heaven - In Every Dream Home... and now Virginia Plain. Not to mention that the sax player is much better looking than Andy Mackay and the neighbors haven't turned up ad the door with flaming torches and pitchforks. Suddenly remembered that the windows are wide open and I'm sitting here doing my best (which is exactly the same as my worst) Bryan Ferry impression at full volume. I saw Roxy in 1972, a couple of weeks before Virginia Plain was released and became an instant fan.

Cracking gig, thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Ferry, with the added joys for this musical nerd of seeing Guy Pratt on bass and Chris Spedding on guitar.

Robert Plant needs a damned good talking to... Won't reform Zep (the others would be back in like a shot including Jason B!) yet he peppers his current performances with Zep classics every time! Whole Lotta Love too!!!!!!!!! I'm sure if Zep were to reform for a tour, the staple songs could be interspersed with solo stuff the others have done (most old Zep fans must have a few solo albums surely?). Best of all worlds if only they would. Alternative arrangements of established classics wouldn't go amiss either, as this was done in the 'Unleded' years and was also done brilliantly last night. Bring on the talented (extra) guitarist and keyboard player from last night to fill in and you'd have a reunion to beat all reunions IMO.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

I've just had a listen to some of the clips on the site. A bit too gimmicky for me.

I picked the album up in a shop and wondered. Then I forgot about it.I wondered if the 'art school' background would make something worthwhile (i.e. 'stylish'). Having had a bit of a listen on YouTube, maybe I'll stick with Bix Beiderbeck.

However, one good thing came out of that search. A bit more Hot Club of France than Jazz Age
