Yet another Phono 1

Unread post by SteveTheShadow »

I've gone and done it and have pulled the trigger on a Phono 1.
When it arrives I'll post a review.
I 've ummed and ahhed for a while since I resurrected vinyl in my system and have
thought long and hard about phono stages as the one I am currently running (Musical Fidelity XLPS round model) is borrowed.
Being a DIY'er I have thought about building my own, but TBH I am finding it very difficult to get motivated and although I have become very competent at valve amp design, I really don't think I will be able to do better than specialists like the Doc. Having read the reports from satisfied customers in this section of the site, It looks like a no-brainer to me, so I'm looking forward to hearing the Phono1 in my system.

I'm sure you've done the right thing. Always upgradable should the need ever arise.

The phono 2 [ I don't think a phono 1 will be suitable for my low output mc ? ] is now the only thing I want .

on second thoughts , and visaton tweeters , ls6 and stepped attenuator pre amp . Then I will be satisfied .

Phono 1 does MC it is just not absolutely silent (very few MC stages are) because of the internal power supply. But it would be ear to speaker to hear it. Also MC really benefits from the headroom the Phono2 gives, but it can be done in stages, Phono1 first then trade up to the 2.

What cartridge and phono stage are you using now DQ. I purchased the Sony amp because it was an all in one solution, sorry Doc, but you don't know what the future brings.

I remember now. ZYX carts seem to be well thought of on forums.

The phono 1 is a little gem and was my introduction to NVA. I liked it so much that it was replaced with a phono 2 which was a great value for money improvement. The temptations are the 2nd power supply or the "let's do it properly" TAS. The doc makes some seriously good products. Once Mr shadow has the phono 1 he will want the 2 then the .........

Don't say we didn't warn you
