Kenwood KA1400b amplifier (1975)

Spotted this last week in a thrift shop, looking lonely and unloved. Later, at home, I had a look on the web and saw that it is a highly-regarded little 15 wpc unit from the mid-70's, so I went back in today and discovered that the price tag which had read 65 euro on Saturday was now only 10 euro. Couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.

Having cleaned the dust off, hooked it up to a CD player and some Grado cans, it works like a charm. Some of the switches are a bit noisy and there is a faint, residual background hum but it has a pleasant, rich tone and is fairly dynamic with the 'tone defeat' activated. Going to leave it to warm through and will probably put it into use as a headphone amp for now.
Good start to the week! :music-listening:

Some Trio/Kenwoods from this period were lovely as I remember. Well done :)

Well. It has warmed up and is sounding quite reasonable with 'The Beast' (Kenwood DP4090 CD player). Going to try it later with the smoother and more civilised Cambridge DacMagic 100.

Great results with the new Meze headphones - even down to the same Walnut finish !

Maybe not very 'audiophile' but certainly up to 'enthusiast' standards.
