Phil Collins on foxtrot, selling England and the lamb is the finest drumming ever.

Whilst I don't particularly like the knightengales, fliss kitson is an awesome drummer.

Stevie Wonder - such feeling and unorthodox technique.

I prefer the more unorthodox drummers. But my first hero was probably John Bonham. His bass drum technique was awesome.

There are quite a few but it has to be John Bonham for me. His writing contribution to some of the zep classics cannot be underestimated. He had unmatched power and could be. Subtle when required.

The correct answer is, of course, Mo Tucker.

I really enjoy superb clean tech drumming and powerhouse rock nutters but drummers that me make me sit up and gasp for air are the ones who play 'songs' on the drums. Being a bassist that sort of drummer made my job even more fun than usual I've found :)

Example 1.

Jason Finn. He plays with PUSA.

Here's 'the hit'.

Here's the drums in isolation. See how you can sing the and 'hear' the entire song in his playing?

Same goes for these next examples.

Example 2.

Simon Kirke from 'Free'.

Example 3 .

James Gadson.
