RIAA (stupid question alert!)
I see this acronym time and again on Hi-Fi forums but have no idea what it stands for or what it means in relation to our hobby/obsession/sink hole for disposable income* [*delete as appropriate]. Can someone please relieve of this debilitating ignorance?

Recording Industry Association of America.
Most important to us is the standard for conversion of sound to enable vinyl records to be cut and the electronic signal from movement of stylus to be converted back to an audible sound signal.

Recording Industry Asscociation of America I believe and is something to do with a "standard" with respect to equalisation as applied to analogue recordings.

Re: RIAA (stupid question alert!)
Thank you. I think I most often see it relation to amps and phono stages. So where does this leave those pieces of kit that don't describe themselves as RIAA?

Okay, just done a bit more reading up and I think I've got it now. Thanks, folks.
