As you all should be aware by now, Blind Chile is a PROG MASTERMAN and, so being, carrying the weight of wot I knows is a Herculean task.
I gots to knows more than just pwog - and proof of this is this very post.

There are genres that "fringe" on pwog.
Jazzrock ( and also fusion) is just that.


Now you also should realize by now that Blind Chile does not give away musical information lightly. Blind Chile disposes of it advantageously.
And when it comes to audio forums, rest assured that Blind Chile spills the beans only to prove how musically-ignorant audio gear fusspots are.

As we shall see.

Well, it is that sort of audience of hanging-open-mouthed gulpers wot reminds me of AUDIOFOOL when it comes to musical taste.

When it comes to music, Audiofool does NOT seek out for himself. He desires the big ,golden funnel to be crammed down his stupid throat. He is one big open gob waiting to be FED (the mediocre).

Generally regarded as THE original jazz-rock recordings are the Miles Davis Bitches Brew / In A Silent Way sessions which led directly to the formation of outfits like Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return To Forever.

Initially I thought of Soft Machine (late 60's?) but I think this band came from other proto jazz-rock ensembles, the names of which I don't know.

Was Alexis Korner purely jazz in the early 60's, or was he going in a more rock direction back then?

I would guess the graham bond organisation would have a chance given their lineup around that time,

Korner is a good suggestion but his Blues Incorporated was just that - more blues,R&B than anything else. Certainly experimental and in the fusion direction as early as '64; but the band/lp I'm thinking of is more overtly fusion and coming from a folk bedrock rather.

My mistake - I said folk back ground. Wrong. Can't see Larry Coryell or Jim Pepper coming outta folk.

In '66 there was only the single "Tattoo Man / Girl Of The Mountain". Their first album was "Out Of Sight And Sound" in 1967. A self titled album doesn't exist. So with your clues a correct answer couldn't have been given.
