Yeah, i should give it a little longer, especially as i can get it free for a year or more through swapping emails, payments, locations etc.
I just don't get why they copied Spotify and made it worse. But hey, it is what it is.

There is a thread on Qobuz on TAS. Martin T has discovered that the SQ is a lot better than Spotify :o . I switched from Tidal to Qobuz nine months ago. Dont think there is anything in it SQ wise with standard 16 Bit 44hz, but I prefer Qobuz with high resolution. Not many albums on 24 Bit 192 hz, but they sound amazing. An example is the recent reissue of Beggars Banquit. I really think there is something to higher sample rates and will be auditioning the Chord Mscaler next week as it can go up to over 700 hz with my compatable Qutest DAC.

Hi-res files are usually remastered and eq'd and otherwise 'tweaked' for better sound. Take the hi-res stream, burn it to a CD-R and see if there's any difference. As it is, if Beggars Banquet is not now on Decca, the stock eq will be all over the place if a third party has been at the tapes, as Decca used their own tape set-up equalisers and not sure if there's anyone left with the knowledge apart from possibly The Audio Archiving Company (Pascal Byrne) who is ex Decca and still uses some of the old gear I'm told.

What ever they have done to Beggers Banquit it sounds a lot better to these years, i have an inferior ripped CD copy. Same with early Rod Stewart albums.

I get that hires may sound better, I get that if hires is better due to mastering rather than bits, a hi res may sound better

what I really struggle with is the concept that upsampling/scaling to add more bits from a Red Book recording is going to gain anything. Unless as a DAC it just happens to be better than what your comparing it to.

The theory is that upscaling recovers what is lost when analogue is converted to digital.

but it can't. It just fill in the gaps with dummy data

what does adding a step in a waveform add that a competent DAC could not acheive with the original sample, or am i missing something?

I am keeping an open mind and will let my ears be the judge. Everything i read is taken with a pinch of salt.
