Scam Warning

I had a phone call from someone claiming to be from Sky saying they were reducing the price of the protection plan to £96 per year or £160 for two years. The only change was it had to be a one off payment and not the usual direct debit. When I was asked for my credit or debit card details I got wise. Afterwards I found out that I was locked out of my Sky account and had to reset the password with security questions. Seems more than a coincidence. Be warned.

Yes, there are far too many attempted scams about this year for my liking.

My mum recieved a phone call from the "Inland Revenue" saying that she was in trouble for not paying enough taxes.
Gave her a right fright till I told her it was 100% without doubt a complete scam.

My son recieved a text stating that he was entitled to a tax refund. He started entering his details till I looked at the URL and told him to get off there straight away.

Far too many. Recently someone got into my wife's phone account and obtained bank details. The bank refunded her.

I think someone got into my Sky account and obtained the phone number. Sky got wind of it and froze the account.

My mum is 95 at the end of this month and she often gets, amongst others, calls from "Microsoft" about her computer. The good thing is, she's stone deaf (when she wants to be) so she lets them ramble on for a bit, tells them her son deals with "all that" and then just puts the phone down. I've got her well trained. It's quite easy to see how some poor old buggers do fall for the scams though.

I think my mum's convinced that the dodgy calls she gets are all from the same place, as she always says something like "That foreign man phoned me up again today," when she tells me about them.

I used to get calls from "Microsoft". They finally gave up on me. If I get any more from "Sky" I might play them along to waste their time.

I ditched Sky and Microsoft years ago - Evil globalist B'stards!

Can't seem to get rid of Google though, they seem too deeply embedded into our lives :angry-steamingears:

I like scam/insurance type phone calls, our phone is unlisted so the first thing I ask is there name and address etc, then I tell them this a MOD number and unlisted and the guy in blue will call soon, instant hang up, the next thing I do is redial there number, funny how it is never connected.

We've got a call blocker on our phone, mainly because we got pissed of at being rung several times a day by people selling solar panels, PPI insurance claims, 'just a short survey, sir' etc etc.

I knew we could rely on you to be philosophical about it ;)

Congratulations, Doctor.
