Re: Tinker, Tailor, Streamer, Pi.
.... and then I had a Schiit Wyrd USB decrappifier going spare. Remembering that a side-function of this unit is also as an ultra-clean 5V USB PSU, I have put it into use in that capacity powering the Pi / DigiOne in the lounge headphone set. Useful is that it has an on/off switch which is something that Pi's don't have. So in these energy-conscious days the streamer can be turned off when not needed.

Re: Tinker, Tailor, Streamer, Pi.
Strange. Using the iPurified CD input in the Upstairs set gives me rock-solid imaging and positioning of the soundstage whereas the USB streaming side sometimes has me fiddling for ages to balance the monoblocks for optimum result.
Cutting the resampling rate in Volumio from 768kHz to 384KHz has immediately solved that problem and the solidity of the imaging has snapped into place.
Maybe the ancient Vista PC was pushing it's CPU a bit on 768 as it seems far more comfortable at 384 and the music is better as well.

Fretless, have you tried VitOS in one of your EPs? It runs Roon Bridge only, but offers greatly reduced latency in comparison to other Roon EP software choices.

Re: Tinker, Tailor, Streamer, Pi.
Not long ago I discovered that play back apps do not sound the same when I gave Mconnect a try. I discovered that I slightly preferred Mconnect to BubbleUp, but there was not much in it. This aroused my curiosity and for the first time I was tempted by Logitech Media Server. Being a computer numpty and previously of the opinion that the sound would be the same what ever app was used I had not given it much thought.
Where there is a will there is a way and with Google as a friend I installed LMS/Squeezelite on my PC and connected it to my portable devices. I am very pleased with the improvement in sound quality, not earth shattering but very noticeable right from the off. There is a greater sense of space and subtlies in the music are more apparent. I was not impressed by the LMS app, but the Spueezer app I am using is brilliant. SQ is the same as with the LMS app. The interface is far better than what I had become used to with Qobuz and Radio Paradise. I have not been able to connect to my NAS but this seems to be down to an issue with WD My Cloud which I am hoping will be resolved soon.
I have not been able to install LMS/Squeezelite on the second system because the MicroRendu is older than the OpticalRendu. The software only updates to version 2.7 when 2.8 is required. The solution is the latest SD card which I have ordered. Unfortunately I tried to install LMS on the second system first and wasted time down a blind alley prior to more internet research.
I am very pleased with what I have achieved and will not be going back to DLNA apps.

Re: Tinker, Tailor, Streamer, Pi.
It's funny but I've been a long term 'fan' of squeezeboxes since 2006. However my musical enjoyment has increased since I've largely moved to non Logitech devices. In their time they were really very good, and generally ahead of' the curve. Time however has moved on, and now I find Raspberry Pi based players way more reliable and a damn sight easier to maintain.
The LMS software is maintained by one guy - who does a really good job, aided and abetted by a few very clever enthusiasts who seem capable of keeping this ecosystem going well beyond Logitech pulling out of the market.
It's worth going over to their forum and asking for assistance, they are generally really helpful and there are some ludicrously knowledgeable bods there. I often need to 'translate' what they are saying into 'old git'.

Re: Tinker, Tailor, Streamer, Pi.
A lot of the advice which is posted is all Greek to me too. I found some of it very helpful along with thread Google brought up on PFM about Sonore software updates and compatability with LMS. Had no idea LMS dates back so far.

Re: Tinker, Tailor, Streamer, Pi.
Since my aged Sonos Connect could no longer access files on my new WD NAS, I have been using an old Discman player for music duties in the kitchen - which has its drawbacks: finding CD's, changing them, skipping tracks, etc.. Spotting this device on Hifi Express, the IEast M50, I have ordered one to try out (cheaper without a remote control - which I don't need anyway)
Tiny little thing, versatile, with options for Line-in, Wifi, BT and Ethernet inputs. Line and optical output. Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, Deezer et al. AND an ESS Sabre DAC chip in there as well.
Word on the net is that it is a sort of rip-off Wiim Mini and is compatible with the Wiim controller app software (IEast have their own control app as well). Looks like the M50 is actually designed and made by Sabaj - so I am expecting fairly good SQ.
Spring holiday season here, so things are pretty quiet and I have time to play around with stuff. Weather is cold and rainy as well. Tracking this shipment from China - it's on its way. !
