A big pit fall of streaming is that you are at the mercy of apps. The Sonicorbiter app which controls my Sonore streamers has been down for maintenance since yesterday. I can still play music but from only what I was connected to before the outage. This means that on the main system I am limited to Squeezer. I can connect to Qobuz and Radio Paradise but not to my NAS for which I require DNLA. No indication as to when Sonicorbiter will be up and running again. :angry-screaming:

Finally entered the world of pi.
Came across a Rpi 1 b the other day for £10 so thought why not!
I’ve got as far as installing Volumio and streaming tidal from my phone to the pi and sound via hdmi out to the tv - no pictures yet as I think I need a keyboard to log the pi to Volumio.
I’ve always fancied building my own streaming transport so we will see where this leads me- poverty probably 😱😂👍🏼

I think the problem here is getting the PC you have LMS installed on to see the WD drive. Once you can get the PC to see the drive you can copy the path from file manager into music folder on the basic settings page.
I got the PC to see My Cloud, eventually. Following advice on the LMS forum I created a drive for it. The problem now is that LMS basic settings does not see it.
It won't, that 'bit' of LMS only sees drives that are on the same machine as LMS.

You can get LMS to see remote drives if you copy the path to the music folder from File Manager to the music folder field on the basic settings page. The path should look something like this \\WDCloudthingy\Music. The WD drive is likely to be hiding in the network part of File Manager.

You'll know if it's worked as when you paste the field should go green, and it will save that path. If that works then go for a clear & rescan if a scan isn't triggered automatically.

If not then we'll have scratch our heads and try something different.

Good luck.
Nearly a year on I have made some progress. It follows the recent purchase of a second WD external hard drive to provide additional storage capacity. This device is a lot more recent than the existing one and my WD MyCloud NAS. For some reason the associated app seems to have woken things up and LMS was able to locate MyCloud from a mapped network drive. I am now able to play music through LMS Squeezer, but only when LMS is running on the PC. Is this normal? When I access MyCloud through Twonky/LMS the PC does not have to be running.

I use a WD app on Windows PC's to access my newer WD NAS.

My Wiim Mini clone streamer uses Twonky.

Volumio devices find the NAS automatically.

LMS does have to be running for the squeezer app to work, I can't comment on Twonky as I've never used it.

It's always amused me that LMS, a networked streaing system is rubbish at finding networked drives.

This explains it. Thanks, I will not waste any more of my time. I access My Cloud via LMS through the BubbleUp app which connects to the DNLA setting on my Sonore streamers. The Streamers have a direct Spueezer setting for LMS and I use this for Qobuz and Radio Paradise without LMS running on the PC. The likely explanation is that LMS has dedicated plugins for Qobuz and Radio Paradise whereas it does not for My Cloud.

The Sonos speakers I have recently bought has an app which puts the hifi ones to shame with its simplicity and User friendliness. This would be part of the mass appeal. Our LG smart TV connects directly to My Cloud with no issues.

Not holding my breath as it says newly released and I have had My Cloud for many years. Will give it a try though. Thanks
