Tonearm

Been dabbling with tonearm modifications- using eBay cast offs / for spares not working - mainly to get a tonearm with detachable head shell.
I would love an exotic tonearm but not sure which- jelco, ortofon etc are expensive as the length increases so I thought I’d try the diy approach first.
It’s an interesting learning curve about offset angles overhang and placement but enjoying it- really🙃
? 1: why are tone arm wires so thin- is it space within the arm or as I leaves the arm- I’m building a solid wand (wood) so will run wires down the outside- ? 2; any reason they can’t be sold core
cheers

They are that thin so that they don't impede the movement of the arm, too stiff and the arm won't move properly
