You beat me to It.

Mine is back to what it was in the days of my youth when my mum used to say I resembled Cousin It. A hair cut could be on the cards after my second jab.

My man cave system is really simple:

An MP3 player (brand escapes me and I'm not going out in the cold to find out)
An A20 with a pair of - 14dB attenuators to put the signal in the right input range
A pair of Wharfdale Diamond 9's (cheap from Richer Sounds).

It ain't amazing but fine to have music to work to. The overall cost wasn't huge as the amp was 2nd hand.

What I'm driving at, it why do you need a volume control if you have control in the source? Works for me.

My general response to the 15 watts not being enough is: is that the fault of the amplifier or of the speakers?
I think I have mentioned previously that an expert recommended a multi-amped, multi-speaker system of something over 1KW in a building where I have achieved uncomfortably loud levels with, basically, two speakers and a 150W per channel Beyerdynamic amp. (The building is a large church, just over 100 years old) Given that the space is many times larger than most of us listen in, I suggest that 15W, well used, can be deafening.

I might add that, at the time I was experimenting, the input gain was at zero and the fader some way short of 0db, there was plenty left to go louder. The only thing a high power amp is good for is melting the voice coils of speaker drive units. I have a dead Sony monitor speaker to prove it.

Would like a bit more power. Current amp is 25W which is fine, but I tend to operate in the upper half of the volume control.

My thinking: I currently have 25W and tend to operate in the higher half of the volume control. My speaker SPL is 89dB and I listen 3.5M away from the speakers. With 15W the SPL at listening position is about 90dB. I’m thinking a little more headroom would be good - for when I want loud.
