Re: Stu
I've had the weekend off. My Auntie came over yesterday and this morning I went to Brimham Rocks, a National Trust Place just North of Harrogate. Had a lovely weekend with no thoughts about hifi which is always a good sign for me. I have had the odd thought about drums but that doesn't count
I haven't looked or listened to the news for weeks now and I have noticed a small improvement from just that. The negative thoughts are still popping up but I have dealt with them by focusing on my breathing until they pass. The book I have is helping greatly, I am starting to be able to see my thoughts in a different way almost as an observer.
I have made more of an effort to see my family and friends and really enjoyed it. I have a lot of friends. Some I don't see nearly often enough. Trying to put that right as it really is good for me, rather than shutting myself away and wallowing in misery.

I can identify with that. Whilst it may not be what you would like to hear, my experience says it's a bit like giving up smoking. As a friend of mine said, I'm not a non smoker, just a smoker who doesn't smoke.
However, my experience also says, time is a great healer. Unfortunately, the Good Lord did not bless me with patience. I hope you fare better.
All my very best!!

Re: Stu
Holy crap Batman. I listened to my system for the first time in months. It sounds just like Iremember Honestly I don't know why I saw my arse with it. State of mind can play a very big part in our enjoyment of the arts, well everything really. My head is in a much better place than it was and it told me to listen to the system. It hasn't done that for ages That doesn't mean I haven't been enjoying music - the JBL Charge 5 is on most days and I really dig it.
My mum spent a month in hospital and it was a really worrying time. Thankfully she has been home a week and very slowly improving, it takes time at her age. Hospital visiting is no fun. I had to switch myself off from the misery all around me to stop it dragging me back to the depths of an emotional black hole.
I can't see any diy on the horizon but I actually got the urge to listen to it which hasn't happened in months. I am no longer taking it so seriously. Who cares if there are further gains to be had . Who cares if this is the best system known to man. I no longer care about all this nerdery- yeah that's what all this obsession with sound quality is about. A sad state of nerdery that is extremely unhealthy and unattractive which really needs to be stopped. Just listen to the fucking music you sad bastards.
The highs are so crisp and clean, the lows are so fat and extended Now if I read something like this and come across such behaviour I immediately stop reading and go elsewhere. I have no tolerance anymore for such meaningless self absorbed twaddle. It's bloody hifi that's all. These monumental improvements are really very very small and so unimportant to the rest of mankind. Hey dear, listen to how much better the crossover integration is on these speakers - I would get laughed out of the house and told to get a fucking life And rightly so.
Drum forums are full of this tone wankery. If you don't have the best tone woods then you aren't serious about drumming and get ignored because if it. Your drums were too cheap and not made by one of the trendy favoured manufacturers. Hey, you can't be in our gang cos your equipment wasn't expensive enough. Time to ignore these twats and just get on with enjoying playing music. I bet the audience really appreciates how smooth my bearing edges are
Stay well. Health is everything. You don't know how important it is until you get older or get poorly. It really is the only thing that matters. Is this an angry rant ? Not angry, I feel more at ease than I have for a long time. I see the world around me instead of walking around blindly with my head full of negativity. The world is all wrong mind you.

Re: Stu
Sorting through priorities is essential, I haven’t listened to music at home for a long time. Party because of the time I spent with live music and partly because I have come to value silence. In the grand scheme of things Hi-Fi is a minority attraction, as is photography, neither is of vital importance. I don’t need the latest phone, mine does everything I need and more, my car is 11 years old but it does exactly the same job as one straight of the production line.
It is far too easy to become obsessed with the unimportant. Let it go and concentrate on what matters. Keep smiling Stu.

Re: Stu
Instead of fooking about obsessing about hifi I have today repaired my lawn mower and sharpened my hedge cutters. You could ride bare arse to London and back on them before. Going to do some gardening this afternoon. Feeling rather smug I repaired the mower without spending any money on parts. It involved an agricultural style bodge on the roller drive system which would have cost me dear. That's if you can get the parts which is a problem in this post Covid/ Brexit, Tory fuck up, war ridden world we live in today.
I have been in the stressful position of being in an agricultural boundary dispute with a neighbouring farmer. He has completely lost the plot, continually destroying my crop. It's been tit for tat for years so I retaliate by destroying his crop which is on my land. Anyway, he is lucky I haven't wrapped my spade round his head on several occasions.
Luckily this situation will soon be coming to a close. Myself and the owner of the neighbouring land (the farmer in question is only a tenant but is waiting to buy the land from his landlord) have employed an independent surveyor who specialises in boundary disputes and we have both signed a document saying we will abide by their decision. There will be posts put in using GPS mapping and an entry on the Land Register. That will stop the stupid twat.

Re: Stu
I must admit, I sometimes go for weeks without firing up the hifi. As for the "value of silence," I'm completely with you on that. At one place I worked, when I was in IT, I shared an office with my boss, and people used to dread disturbing us. They called our office "The Library". They also knew better than to come anywhere near us with tinsel at Christmas too, but that's another story.
