Been looking at ‘vintage’ Sony turntables from 70’s- some interesting designs
PS 2251 & TTS 3000
They seem to go for less than jvc Denon technics and there is less info on the internet
Yamaha have a few interesting decks too
Decision will be based on £££ rather than ❤️

The 2251 is a direct drive motor unit, the 3000 is a belt drive
I have no experience of those decks, the sonys i had were reasonable enough but separating the drive sound from the plinth and arm sound is impossible.

Bought another one. Got another technics sl150 and stuck my 3009 on it.
I never gave the first one i had (14 years ago) a fair shake because the speed was all over the place and getting one that didnt have wonky speed wasnt high on my list of things to do.
This one was cheap and had had the caps replaced and all the resistors apparently. I havent had it apart so i havent checked that this has been done, but its pretty speed stable so it probably has.
The plastic base tray needs something doing to it because its clangy and plasticky and generally horrible, so i will put some bitumen damping pads in there to address that. But it sounds pretty ok, abit forward in the mid which i think is a trait of the cast aluminium chassis and the fact that the feet are attached to the nasty plastic base tray rather than the chassis itself.
When i pull it apart ill see if somethine can be done about that.
But for less than a ton its perfectly acceptable
Much better than the first one i had

Had the base off to fit new feet to the deck.
Modified it and fitted them, then took a look at the board.
It hasnt had any resistors changed or been recapped. It hant been touched.
So ive been lied to by the seller.

Cant do anything about it now as ive modified it to fit the new feet.

It is running fine so it isnt exactly a problem, but it will want recapping eventually

Lying git arsehole seller

Its not like i fix turntables for a living or anything so wouldnt know exactly what im looking at is it...........
