It's been quite a journey since you joined the forum, six years ago today, hasn't it?

Wow. It all started with googling balanced mains units. Then, a phone call to Richard during which I said something like 'I remember NVA from the flat-earth mags'...cue the sound of air being sucked between teeth. I am unashamedly stood on Richard's (and Tom & Mark's) shoulders when it comes to NVA, but I think RD would be pleased that the amps continue, un-bastardised.

Carrying on RD's mission for no-bullshit, here's-the-music. I think he would be proud.

Great stuff, Savvy.

I think he'd feel that this forum has been neutered.

But then it seemed that he spent half his life looking at other forums and going "Look at that!" :angry-steamingears:

It's one of those where I can understand why he did it. But there's more to life than responding to a load of :Bllocks: that some eeeeejyeet has put on the internet about hi-fi.

One thing about the death of people in our lives is that there will always be triggers that make us think about the deceased. This thread is one of them.

I miss Richard.

There's a lot about him that I respect. And treat as a role model.
And some stuff that has a certain amount of pathos. Things that I know I ought not to copy. But sometimes do.

Anyway. The last 6 years are a sideshow. What's most important is; today! The past is gone. Today is unfolding.

Very pleased that NVA has continued with the design philosophy unchanged.

It's an interesting time for forums. 'In the beginning' we had the novelty and excitement of being able to talk to other enthusiasts around the UK and beyond, but that is now taken for granted and many conversations have been done to death; there's only so many circular arguments about cables or measurements that you can have. Some forums have distilled down to being a group of online friends (who often talk less about hi-fi, and more about a wider range of topics), some have become closer to the mainstream industry in having formal reviews and news features, some are specialised around certain manufacturers or types of equipment. The forums that are larger tend to be so because they were there at the beginning, and most people went to what was readily available, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they were ever the 'best'.

HFS is quiet. It remains a worthwhile facility for NVA (links to the NVA website that score well in Google rankings), but it can be a more thought provoking and vibrant discussion forum. There is no neutering of debate; the only proviso is that we play the ball, not the man.

As LindsayT said...the past is gone, and today is unfolding. It's up to us to make this place what we want it to be. I will support that by sharing forum content via the NVA Facebook page and blogs, and by starting threads.

The only reason I originally joined this forum was that I was trying to decide between two different (inexpensive) cables. One was the Sound Cord, and I don't even remember what the other one was. I thought it would be great to own something where I could actually connect with the designer/manufacturer, so I settled on NVA.

Of course, after Richard had sworn at me a few times the novelty began to wear off...

But I'm still here.

Congratulations :guiness; If it wasn't for Paul and Tomasz NVA would probably not exist anymore.

As far as the forum goes, finding this place changed my audio life vastly for the better. It did lead to a roller-coaster voyage of discovery and the truth. Its not over yet, just having a break so expect more Heath Robinson creations in the future

I am spending a lot less time on hifi forums than I used to. The main reason is repetition and having a far greater knowledge than I did when I started reading them around seven years ago. I can now see through agendas and :Bllocks: , which are not in short supply.

The first forum I discovered was PFM. Can't recall how HFS came to my attention and I was not aware of the NVA connection for a while. What attracted me more and more was the Muppet figure who was very opinionated and out spoken, concurring with my views on the flat earth  . I have found HFS to be the best source of advice with the most informed contributors. This is not just in respect of NVA but hifi in general, choice of headphones and digital cables, and outside hifi eg pubs in Newcastle :guiness;

There are a few posters on WAM whose opinions I respect, but most are taken with a pinch or tonne of salt. I do not visit other hifi forums often with the exception of Steve Hoffman which has a very good music section.
