CD - it's not dead yet!
https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/tech ... ic-4407487
Article about the continuing attraction of Compact Disc in this era of streaming and the Vinyl revival.
I could have written this piece as it closely mirrors my feelings on the subject. CD's are absurdly cheap in comparison to LP's these days, with sound quality that, if you know what you are doing, is very satisfying.

Couldn't agree more. I rip mine but I still have a CD player as backup (must put that on my profile - idle me).

Re: CD - it's not dead yet!
The wealth of second hand CDs at give-away prices means they get a thumbs up from me.
Also CD players represent far better value than record decks for similar sound quality.
Yes, I still purchase LPs for £25-£30 but I do question my own logic.

Re: CD - it's not dead yet!
I scoop up loads of CD’s at local charity shops. Usually 25p each.
I rarely find vinyl in charity shops these days, though did get some mint condition old Boney M albums recently.

Re: CD - it's not dead yet!
As I think I've said before, I still buy CDs, but tend to buy them on sites like Rough Trade or Cherry Red which have decent sale prices. Otherwise, I tend to stick to buying via Twatter and Farcebook from artists I like, who will often sign copies ordered that way. I count myself lucky, for instance, to have bought the late Bernie Marsden's final three albums, all autographed by the man himself. A bit like TheMadMick, I do rip at least some of them to files once purchased. Alternatively, I can play them on (free) Spotify, and Amazon Music, both of which are available via my Audiolab 6000N network player.

Re: CD - it's not dead yet!
Well, GH, I have now.
Looks impressive but at €5000 it's way out of my league.

Re: CD - it's not dead yet!
I have been buying CDs second hand at low cost and ripping them to WAV. Music Magpie informs you of the mastering date so I can check the DR. As a general rule the oldest and cheapest sound best because of less compression. Regarding the bands and artists I like the loudness wars have got worse in nearly all cases. I would not consider buying anything new and am happy to stream on Qobuz. I think vinyl, apart from its limitations, has priced itself out. Similar to non Wetherspoons pubs.

It's a lot. No doubt.
Flagship AKM though. I'd like to listen to one.
