Car insurance

Unread post by Lindsayt »

I'm getting the impression that car insurance costs may have come down in the last 12 months.

With it still being worth - as always - having a shop around for quotes when renewal time comes up.

And to try different options when getting quotes.

For example, my insurance company quoted me £1000 for 3rd party fire and theft renewal on a 2010 BMW 330D. With fully comp being £200 more.

Went to Go Compare.
And got fully comp with legal cover and protected no claims (currently at 20 years) for £400. That was with quite a high excess of £650.
With 3rd party being £50 more.

I've got my fingers crossed for my daughter who passed her test and got her first car in 2023. She bought a 2010 Suzuki Alto specifically because that was the joint cheapest car for insurance. She paid £2800 fully comp with no black box. We will find out in November what her next 12 months insurance will cost her...

The less £'s spent on insurance = the more for other stuff. Such as non-essential, but pleasantly enjoyable, audio equipment...
