Re: Who plays what?

I was a folk soloist, which means there was nobody daft enough to want to appear on stage with me. I "did" everyone from Jake Thackray to Gordon Giltrap via Pete Seeger. I'm almost impressed with myself in that I saw "Bartered Bride" and instantly thought "Smetana". :lo...

Re: Unsung Heroes

Jackie Leven. If Jackie had been taken at 99 years old it would still have been too soon. This was the first song of his I ever heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkSOqLNppwo I make no apologies for the length (8 mins 30 secs) of this next clip. I think the intro gives you a pretty good feel for ...

Re: Who plays what?

Sight reading is beyond me, although I can read music slowly and well enough to transpose arrangements. I could never perform opera, except perhaps some extreme form of Opera Buffa. I did help run, and play at, a local folk club back in the 70s though.

Who plays what?

No ulterior motives for asking, just innocent curiosity.

What instrument(s) do you play?

I'm basically a guitarist but have performed on blues harp, keyboards, bass, and occasional vocals...which is a bit like an occasional table, and almost as musical.

The Ruts - Babylon's Burning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCkNu9OxThc Knew a couple of these guys. "Punks" who could actually play their instruments. This is a much later version featuring Henry Rollins on vocals. I'm guessing this footage is from 2007. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j...

Re: Broadly defined avant-garde and modern music

I think this thread is in dire need of some Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.

Re: My wife says I should get a hearing test?

I told my wife for years that she needed a hearing test and she finally consented to see the quack about getting one. Long story short: she now has hearing aids and every time I play some music she tells me I'm playing it too loud, therefore I must need my hearing tested. Be careful what you wish fo...

Harry Chapin Check out Mr. Tanner which I've linked below, and watch out for bass player "Big" John Wallace. If you enjoy it then I urge you to listen to "Greatest Stories Live" by Harry; one of the best live albums (in my opinion of course) you'll ever hear. http://www.youtube.c...
