Re: New!!!!! NVA CD players
I'm interested in this question as well, if there is a decent input and DAC then I'd have one as I could use it for two uses.phlakaton wrote: 2.No mention of inputs (or did I miss this) USB, Coax, HDMI ? or would I need a stand alone DAC for other sources.
My Kit – I moved to home theatre setup sorry...Denon SR7011, Anthony Gallo A'Diva SE Fronts, SpeakerCraft Profile AIM LCR3 One Rears, BK Electronics XLS200-DF MK2 Sub, Epson Projection.
But I would love a cheeky little AP10, AP20 sort of amp for a bedroom setup...

Re: New!!!!! NVA CD players
If the donor unit doesn't have digital input capability (not many do) then there is no chance of being able to use the unit as a DAC.
However Doc has said that it DOES have a digital out, which means you can run it as a CD transport through an external DAC.

Yeah it's a long shot but thought I'd ask, especially as someone else had.

Re: New!!!!! NVA CD players
I will do nothing but transfer or replace the sockets of the donor unit onto the NVA case. As I have said already exactly as I did with the first generation players.
I have already said this in earlier post
All outputs.
1 USB
1 HDMI
1 Phono Digital
2 Phono analogue (L&R)

Re: New!!!!! NVA CD players
Interesting the USB takes a dongle with music on it so it must be an input.
Anyway I will not be touching any of that apart from re power supplying it.

Re: New!!!!! NVA CD players
Then it does look like there might be a way to use it as a USB DAC running from a PC - however the audio formats supported will probably be restricted to just MP3 & WMA.
(If you were to give us a hint on the donor machine, Doc, then those interested could look this up for themselves - save you answering unnecessary questions).

Re: New!!!!! NVA CD players
Doc, I don't want to tread on anyone's toes.
Please tell me if I am out of order - but we are all guessing wildly and 'pissing in the wind' here:
The innards of your proposed player would appear to be similar to this range of models :
Playable Disc Formats: SVCD, VCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW
Playable File Formats: AAC, JPEG, MP3, MPEG-4, WMA, XviD, MPEG1
This type of player has an onboard 192KHz/16bit DAC and can output 96KHz/24bit digital audio.
USB input is only for input from storage devices.
As Sony are a major supplier to other brands - the donor device for the NVA could be anything, but the internals will, I guess, be fairly similar.

Re: New!!!!! NVA CD players
I'm puzzled as Sony UK does not list any disc players on their web site. In other words they appear to have abandoned all but blue ray. Those DVD players I see for sale appear to be very cheap so the quality of transport may be rather 'basic' though the D/A converters may be similar to those used in some high end players? Frankly Sony aren't the company they once were. I suspect they are close to meltdown in terms of audio and are now a camera and games player company.
