More expanded reissues of two delightful albums from one of the less successful bands of the classic Progressive era. Stackridge had their roots in the folklore of the West Country and there is a strong pastoral flavout to 'Friendliness' mixed in with their own brand of absurd humour and glorious musicianship that features violin and flute in a similar way to early Caravan.

For their third LP, they brazenly asked George Martin if he would produce it - and he agreed! Stackridge wore their Beatles-adoration on their sleeves and went for broke to make the best album they possibly could. 'The Man in the Bowler Hat' became their best-selling record and sounds in places like leftover tracks from the 'Sgt Pepper' sessions. Martin's trademark string arrangements carry several of the songs and give depth to the bands sometimes wistful silliness.

Now, these fine records have been given a modern mastering-workover and accompanied by extra discs of live, session and single tracks we are treated to a complete overview of the band's oeuvre.
